Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team closed out the 2022 portion of its season schedule on Saturday afternoon at home with a 52-42 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over the Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats. The win gives UB a three-game winning streak, and the Purple Knights are now 706 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Wildcats slip to 1-11 overall and 0-2 in the CACC.
Bridgeport led 17-10 after the opening quarter and never looked back, as they trailed once early in the contest by a single point.
Freshman Amani Melendez (Woodbridge, Va.) led Bridgeport with a game-high 16 points, and she also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
Melendez was joined in double-digit scoring by two teammates, as freshman Mackenzie Creighton (Rockaway, N.J.) contributed 12 points, and sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) chipped in 10 points for the winners.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will open the 2023 portion of its season slate at Caldwell University on Wednesday, January 4. Game time in New Jersey is set for 5:30 p.m.
