UB Women Snap Three-Game Losing Skid With A 73-64 Home Win Over Bloomfield
UB Now An Even 4-4 Overall And 1-1 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon with a 73-64 home Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over the visiting Bloomfield College Bears. With the victory, UB is now 4-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Bloomfield slips to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the CACC.
Leading 13-9 after the first quarter, the Purple Knights put the game away by outscoring the visitors, 25-11 in the second quarter to take 38-20 advantage into the locker room at the half.
Sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 17 points on the afternoon, and she also had eight rebounds.
Meekins was joined in double figures by junior Shakira Hester (Bronx, N.Y.), who fell just shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, and senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with 10 points for the winners.
Senior Vienna Knox (Middletown, Conn.) also had nine rebounds for UB.
Bloomfield's Saja Alston led all scorers in the game with 22 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will continue its three-game homestand on Tuesday night with a conference clash with Dominican University (NY). Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 5:00 pm.
