Bridgeport Stumbles In Non-Conference Women's Basketball Action At Adelphi
Team Now 3-3 On The Year And Will Open Conference Play At Post On Wednesday Evening
Garden City, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team saw its early season record even at 3-3 on Sunday afternoon, as the Purple Knights fell in non-conference action on Long Island versus the host Adelphi University Panthers, 86-67. With the win, AU is now 3-2 on the season.
Senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 18 points on Sunday, and she also added eight rebounds. UB sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) fell just shy of a double-double against the Panthers with 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Junior Shakira Hester (Bronx, N.Y.) also reached double-digit scoring for the third straight game for the Purple Knights as she finished the afternoon with 10 points.
UB struggled taking care of the ball in Sunday's defeat, as the team committed 23 turnovers that Adelphi turned into a total of 37 points.
AU's Ty'zhea Hawkins led all scorers in the game, as she netted a career-high 32 points for the winners.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team opens up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights travel up Route 8 to Waterbury, Connecticut to face local rival, Post University. Action is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
