Women's Hoops Battles To Post A 63-55 ECC Road Win Over Queens (N.Y.) College
Brianna Meekins Leads The Purple Knights With 18 Points And 16 Rebounds
Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team trailed 32-27 at the half, but the Purple Knights used a strong third and fourth quarter performance to post a 63-55 road East Coast Conference victory over the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Sunday afternoon in New York City. The Purple Knights outscored QC, 20-13, in the third quarter to take a 47-45 lead into the final stanza which UB never relinquished.
With the win, Bridgeport, which swept the season series from Queens, is now 8-15 overall and 5-11 in the ECC. The host Knights fall to 4-19 overall and 3-13 in conference play.
Sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the winners with a double-double of 18 points and a career-best 16 rebounds.
Meekins was joined in double figures by teammates Emily Brown (Grad., Haledon, N.J.) with 11 points and Stephanie McBride (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Janiece Loney (Grad., Herndon, Va.), each chipped in 10 points for the Purple Knights. McBride also finished the contest with a double-double of her own pulling down 12 rebounds.
Queens' Chelsea Reeves led all scorers on Sunday with 20 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team is slated to close out the 2021-22 season at home on Saturday when the Purple Knights host Roberts Wesleyan. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
