Purple Knights Earn Third Women's Basketball Victory In Last Four Outings
UB Tops Staten Island, 72-59
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team picked up its third win in its last four outings on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights got back in the win column with a 72-59 home East Coast Conference victory over the visiting College of Staten Island Dolphins. UB is now 7-13 overall and 4-9 in the ECC. CSI slips to 6-15 overall and is also 4-9 in conference play,
Bridgeport graduate student Samirah Henderson (Rahway, N.J.) led all scorers in the contest with 20 points on the afternoon.
Henderson was joined in double-digit scoring by three teammates, as sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) had 17 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for the winners, junior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 15 points plus had seven rebounds and blocked three shots and graduate student Emily Brown (Haledon, N.J.) knocked down four three-point shots to net 12 points on the day.
Kaia Johnson led the Dolphins with 15 points off the Staten Island bench.
It will be a quick turnaround for the UB women's basketball team, as the Purple Knights are right back in action at home tomorrow at 12 noon, as Bridgeport host D'Youville College in a rescheduled contest from earlier in the month.
