UB Women Return To The Court And See Their Three-Game Winning Streak Stopped At UDC
Firebirds Top The Purple Knights, 69-61
Washington, D.C.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team returned to the court for the first time since January 30 on Wednesday night in our Nation's Capital, and the Purple Knights saw their three-game winning streak come to an end, as the host University of the District of Columbia Firebirds topped UB, 69-61. Bridgeport is now 6-13 overall and 3-9 in East Coast Conference play. UDC evens its overall mark at 11-11 and moves to 7-6 in the ECC.
Four Bridgeport players reached double-digit scoring on Wednesday led by junior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who finished with a game-high 17 points. McBride also chipped in eight rebounds and six blocked shots on the night.
Also reaching double figures for UB at UDC were graduate students Emily Brown (Haledon, N.J.) with 13 points, Janiece Loney (Herndon, Va.) with 11 points and Samirah Henderson (Rahway, N.J.) completed the quartet of double-digit scorers with 10 points.
Sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the Purple Knights on the glass grabbing 12 rebounds.
Latavia Jackson and Destiny Ryles led the Firebirds in scoring, as they each netted 13 points.
Turnovers plagued Bridgeport in the loss, as the Purple Knights committed 19 miscues in the contest that led to 17 opposition points.
The UB women's basketball team will look to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym, when the team opens a three-game homestand against the College of Staten Island. ECC action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
