UB Women's Hoops Posts Third Straight Win With A 67-61 ECC Road Triumph Over Mercy
All Five Bridgeport Starters Reach Double-Digit Scoring In The Contest
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team ran its winning streak to three game on Sunday afternoon with 67-61 East Coast Conference road win over the host Mercy College Mavericks. UB is now 6-12 overall and 3-8 in the ECC. Mercy moves to 10-9 overall and 8-3 in conference action.
UB came back from trailing by 13 points, 45-32, with 3:28 to play in the third quarter to earn the victory, as the Purple Knights outscored the Mavericks, 21-13, in the fourth quarter.
As a team, Bridgeport shot the ball well on Sunday, as UB knocked down 50 percent of its' field goals, going 27-of-54 from the floor in the contest.
All five UB starters reached double-digit scoring in the win led by Samirah Henderson (Grad., Rahway, N.J.) with 15 points. Sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) added 14 points for the winners and graduate student Emily Brown (Haledon, N.J.) plus junior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.), each chipped in 11 points for the Purple Knights. Graduate student Janiece Loney (Herndon, Va.) rounded out the UB quintet in double figures with 10 points.
McBride led Bridgeport on the glass grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds to notch her fourth straight double-double to go along with her 11 points. She also blocked three shots on the afternoon.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will look to run its winning streak to four games on Wednesday night, when the Purple Knights open a two-game homestand by hosting ECC foe, D'Youville College. Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym.
