UB Knocks Down 11 Three-Point Shots On The Way To The Win
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball got off to a quick start and never trailed in the game, as the host Purple Knights posted an impressive 71-53 East Coast Conference win over the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Wednesday evening in Hubbell Gym. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 5-12 overall and 2-8 in the ECC. STAC slips to 6-11 overall and 5-3 in conference action.
Long distance shooting was a big factor in the game, as UB connected on 11 three-point shots; while St. Thomas Aquinas was only 4-of-15 from behind the arc.
Janiece Loney (Grad., Herndon, Va.), who knocked down five three pointers, led four Purple Knights in double-digit scoring with a game-best 21 points on the night. She was joined in double figures by junior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 16 plus classmates Emily Brown (Haledon, N.J.), who also had five three-pointers, with 15 points plus Samirah Henderson (Rahway, N.J.) with 12 points for the winners.
McBride finished with her third consecutive double-double, as she grabbed a game-high 14 boards, and Henderson also notched a double-double, as she dished off 10 assists to go with her 12 points.
Bridgeport did an excellent job of taking care of the basketball on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights had 20 assists and committed a season-low seven turnovers.
Victoria Kurisko led three Spartans in double figures with 14 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will look to extend its winning streak to three games on Sunday afternoon, when the Purple Knights travel to Mercy College. Game time for the East Coast Conference tilt is set for 12 noon.
