Women's Basketball Battles To The End But Falls At Roberts Wesleyan
Four UB Players Reach Double-Digit Scoring
Rochester, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team outscored the host Roberts Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks, 29-10 in the fourth quarter, but the visiting Purple Knights could not pull themselves back from trailing by as many as 29 points, 70-41, with just over a minute to play in the third quarter, as UB fell to RWC, 82-73, in East Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon in chilly Western New York. Bridgeport is now 3-1 overall and 0-7 in conference action. Roberts Wesleyan moves to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the ECC.
Graduate student Janiece Loney (Herndon, Va.) led Bridgeport with 19 points in the game, and she also dished off seven assists.
Loney was joined in double figures by three teammates, as classmate Emily Brown (Haledon, N.J.) netted 18 points, as she connected on six three-point shots, sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored 17 points, and junior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with a double-double of 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Taryn Wilson, who hit eight three-points shots on the day, led three Redhawks in double-digit scoring with a career-best 25 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will wrap up a three-game road swing at Molloy College on Wednesday night. Tip-time on Long Island is set for 5:00 p.m.
