Bridgeport And Staten Island Battle To Double Overtime In ECC Women's Basketball Action
CSI Tops UB, 92-88, As Samirah Henderson Nets 29 Points For The Purple Knights
Staten Island, N.Y.-The host College of Staten Island Dolphins outscored the visiting University of Bridgeport, 13-9, in the second overtime period to post a 92-88 East Coast Conference victory on Saturday in Richmond County. UB is now 3-10 overall and 0-6 in the ECC. CSI moves to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in conference action.
The host Dolphins scored outscored the Purple Knights, 25-10, in the fourth quarter to force extra time, and tied the game at the game with just two seconds to play in the first overtime to add five more minutes of play.
Samirah Henderson (Grad., Rahway, N.J.) led Bridgeport with 29 points, as she connected on seven 3-point shots, falling just two points of her career-high point total.
Classmate Janiece Loney (Herndon, Va.) contributed 20 points for the Purple Knights, and two other UB players Emily Brown (Haledon, N.J.) with 15 points and sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) with 11 points, also reached double-digit scoring. Meekins finished the afternoon as UB's leading rebounding grabbing nine boards.
Staten Island's Jenalyse Alarcon led all scorers in the game with 32 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball continues its road trip at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, N.Y. next Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
