Buffalo, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team ran into a buzz saw in conference newcomer, the D'Youville College Saints, on Friday night, as the host team topped the Purple Knights, 95-68, in the 2021-22 ECC opener for both teams. UB is now 3-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play; while D'Youville moves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the ECC.
Sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) led UB with a career-best 22 points. She was joined in double figures by Samirah Henderson (Grad., Rahway, N.J.) with 16 points, Emily Brown (Grad., Haledon, N.J.) with 15 points and Janiece Loney (Herndon, Va.) netted 11.
Junior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Bridgeport on the glass with seven boards.
Sara Pfeiffer led all scorers in the game and four Saints in double figures with 40 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will compete the western New York portion of a four-game road trip with an East Coast Conference contest at Daemen College on Sunday. Tip-off is slated for 11:00 a.m.
