Samirah Henderson Scores A Career-High 31 Points On Tuesday
Waterbury, Conn.-Tuesday night's game at Post University was a tale of two halves for the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team, as the visiting Purple Knights were red-hot from the floor in the first two quarters to lead by as many as 16 points, 43-37, with just 1:20 to play in the second quarter and held a 43-30 at the half, but the host Eagles turned the table on the visitors outscoring them, 25-7, in the third quarter on their way to an 84-77 non-conference victory. Bridgeport is now 1-3 on the young season; with all of those contests being played on the road. Post ups its season record to 3-1.
Tuesday's 77 points are a season high for the Purple Knights on offense.
UB's Samirah Henderson (Grad. Rahway, N.J.) led all scorers in the game on Tuesday evening with a Bridgeport career high 31 points, as she connected on 11-of 15 shots, including hitting six three-point baskets. Henderson also dished off seven assists for the Purple Knights.
Junior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had another double-double for Bridgeport netting 18 points and grabbing a team-best 14 rebounds.
Graduate student Janiece Loney (Herndon, Va.) rounded out the Bridgeport players in double-digit scoring on Tuesday with 13 points.
Post's Sha'Raya Haines led five Eagles in double figures with 22 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will open its 2021-22 home schedule on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym, when the Purple Knights host the Warriors of Nyack College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in the Park City.
