UB Women's Basketball Tripped Up At Caldwell University
Purple Knights Are Back In Action On Wednesday Evening At Bloomfield
Caldwell, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team got off to a good start on Sunday afternoon against the host Caldwell University Cougars in the final game of the 2021 Caldwell Women's Basketball Crossover Classic leading 17-10 after the first quarter, but it was all Caldwell from then on, as the Cougars defeated the Purple Knights, 75-58. UB is now 0-2 on the young season; while Caldwell evens its record at 1-1.
Graduate student Samirah Henderson (Rahway, N.J.) and sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) led UB in scoring on Sunday, as they each netted 15 points.
Junior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with a double-double against Caldwell with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and graduate student Emily Brown (Haledon, N.J.) rounded out the Purple Knights in double-digit scoring with 11 points.
Freshman Sade Young (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also finished in double figures on the boards grabbing 10 rebounds.
Bridgeport won the rebounding battle on Sunday pulling down 39 caroms to 36 for the Cougars.
Caldwell's Casey O'Shaughnessy led all scorers in the game with 20 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will continue its season-opening four-game trip when they return to the Garden State on Wednesday evening to face the Bears of Bloomfield College. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
