Clock Runs Out On UB Women's Basketball's Comeback Attempt At St. Michael's
Down By 27 Points At The Half, Bridgeport Pulls To With Four Points With Just Over Three Minutes To Play But Falls, 75-65
Colchester, Vt.-The visiting University of Bridgeport women's basketball team scored the first two points of the game, but that was only lead UB would hold all afternoon, as the visitors fell, 75-65, in an all Purple Knights non-conference contest against St. Michael's College in Vermont on Monday afternoon. After falling behind by that 2-0 score, the hosts went on a 14-0 run and never looked back.
The visiting Purple Knights of Bridgeport, who trailed by 27 points, 46-19, at the half, battled all through the final two quarters to pull to within four points, 64-60, with 3:26, to play but that was as close as UB would get as the team is now 0-5 on the road so far in 2019-20. With the loss, Bridgeport is now 3-9 overall, and with the victory, St. Mike's ups its season mark to 6-3 overall.
Junior Alyzae Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) led UB with 17 points, and she was joined in double figures by senior Jaqualah Holliman (Boston, Mass.) with 15 points. Holliman also added eight rebounds and two steals on the day.
Freshman Dakota Adams (Manchester, N.J.) led Bridgeport on the glass with nine rebounds.
Taylor Miller led four St. Michael's players in double-digit scoring with 18 points, and teammate Brianna Purcell finished with a triple-double of 16 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team returns to East Coast Conference play and will close out its schedule before the Holiday Break with a 1:00 p.m. home game in Hubbell Gym on Saturday afternoon versus Queens (N.Y.) College.
