Ice Cold Purple Knights Fall To AIC, 69-49, In Non-Conference Women's Basketball Action
Team Back In Hubbell Gym On Saturday Hosting Merrimack At 5:00 PM
Springfield, Mass.-While the weather outside so far this winter has been a tad warmer than normal, but the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team was ice cold from the floor on Thursday night falling, 69-49, in a non-conference game against the host Yellow Jackets of American International College. UB jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Thursday, but AIC responded with a 9-0 and run and never trailed the rest of the evening. Bridgeport is now 7-6 overall, and American International ups its season mark to 8-6 with the win.
In the first half, the Purple Knights connected on only 6-of 32 field attempts (18.8%), including going only 1-of-9 from behind the three-point line, as they trailed 37-17 at the break. UB finished the night going 17-of-68 from the floor (25.0%), and the Purple Knights hit just 2-of-15 total three-point shots (13.3 %).
Senior Nicole Johnson (Newark, N.J.) was the only Purple Knight to reach double-digit scoring on the night with 12 points.
Classmate Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) led UB on the glass whit six rebounds, and she also blocked two shots.
AIC's Dana Watts led all players on the night with a double-double of 26 points and 15 rebounds.
Up next, the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team will play its final non-conference game of the season when the Purple Knights host Merrimack College to open a four-game home stand on Saturday. Tip time in Hubbell Gym is set for 5:00 p.m.
