Two Women's Basketball Standouts Earn Weekly ECC Awards
Senior Samnell Vonleh And Freshman Gianna Gotti Honored By The East Coast Conference For Their Outstanding Play
West Babylon, N.Y.-Two University of Bridgeport women's basketball standout have been honored by the East Coast Conference for their outstanding play with conference Player of the Week honors for action that took place from December 17 through 19, 2018. Senior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) has been selected the ECC's Defensive Player of the Week, and teammate, freshman Gianna Gotti (Oyster Bat, N.Y.) earned conference Rookie of the Week accolades.
Vonleh, who leads UB so far this season averaging 7.4 rebounds per game and who has blocked a total of 24 shots so through 11 games, was a dominant force in the paint the Purple Knights' 51-48 road win over Pace on Wednesday night, as she blocked three shots and tied for the team lead on the glass grabbing seven rebounds. Sam also led the team in scoring with 10 points in Wednesday's win. On the season, she leads Bridgeport in scoring averaging 15.1 points per outing.
Gotti drilled the game-winner three-point shot with just 32 seconds to play to give Bridgeport Wednesday's 51-48 road win over Pace on. Gianna scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds coming off the Purple Knights' bench in the victory, plus she also had a steal.
The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team heads into the Holiday Break with a 7-4 overall record, and the team will return to the court at home on Sunday, December 30 versus Jefferson University. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
