Women's Basketball Earns First ECC Win Of The Season With A 64-60 Home Victory Over Daemen
Purple Knights Back In Action On Tuesday At Merrimack
Bridgeport, Conn.- The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team earned its fourth victory of the 2017-18 season and snapped a five-game losing skid by defeating the visiting Daemen College Wildcats, 64-60, on Sunday afternoon in Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium in an East Coast Conference contest. The Purple Knights are now 4-7 overall and 1-3 in ECC play. Daemen falls to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Wildcats opened the contest with two made foul shots just 16 seconds into action, and Bridgeport would quickly answer, scoring a layup by senior Morgen Caution (Baltimore, MD) just ten seconds later. That trend would continue during a hard fought, back-and-forth contest that featured six ties and seven lead changes.
Bridgeport put the game away by outscoring the visitors, 23-13, in the fourth quarter.
For UB, sophomore Kadijah Dickson (Queens, NY) and junior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) had 13 points apiece to lead the team; while sophomore teammate Kayla Hill (Massapequa, N.Y.) followed with 12 points off the Bridgeport bench. Vonleh added a team-high eight rebounds and also blocked four shots for the winners. Hill chipped in six rebounds plus four steals, and Dickson also had seven rebounds and two steals on the day.
Junior Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.) had a fine all-around game for the Purple Knights with nine points, six assists and seven rebounds on the day.
The UB women's basketball team is back in action at Merrimack College on Tuesday, December 19. The non-conference game is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
