Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team held a 31-29 lead at the half, but the host NYIT Bears stormed back to outscore the visiting Purple Knights, 28-13, as they never looked back after that on their way to a 79-64 East Coast Conference win. UB is now 6-13 overall and 4-6 in the ECC. NYIT has now posted 12 wins a row, and the Bears are 17-5 overall and an unblemished 11-0 in conference play.
Freshman Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led UB on Saturday with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds, plus she added six assists. Stoddart was joined in double figures by classmate Kadijah Dickson (Queens, N.Y.) with 13 points, and she grabbed seven rebounds, plus junior Evelyn Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) chipped in 10 points for the Purple Knights.
Dina Ragab led five NYIT players in double digits with a game-high 20 points.
The UB women's basketball team is back in action on Monday night when they continue a four-game road trip at Queens (N.Y.) College. Tip-off in Flushing is set for 5:30 p.m.
