Three Players Reach Double Figures But Women's Hoops Topped By Holy Family, 69-63
UB Returns To ECC Play On Friday Night At Home Versus Roberts Wesleyan
Bridgeport, Conn.-Three players reached double digits in scoring, but it was not enough for the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team, as the host Purple Knights fell at home to the visiting Holy Family University Tigers, 69-63, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening. UB is now 3-6 overall; while HFU ups its overall mark to 7-4. Bridgeport led 31-25 at the half, but the visiting railed to take a 51-47 lead after the third quarter which they never relinquished.
Sophomore Aurelie Leblanc-Florent (Longueuil, Quebec, Canada) led the Purple Knights in scoring with 18 points. Classmate Morgen Caution (Baltimore, Md.) had a strong night with 15 points, eight rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot.
Freshman Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the UB scorers in double figures with 11 points.
Bridgeport junior Louise Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) led all players on the boards with 13 rebounds, and she also added six assists, five points and two steals.
Jill Conroy led Holy Family with a game-high 21 points.
The UB women's basketball team will look to snap a two-game losing streak when the Purple Knights return to East Coast Conference play at home on Friday night versus Roberts Wesleyan College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
