Women's Hoops Sees Two-Game Winning Streak Snapped At LIU Post, 71-66
Purple Knights Set To Open Three-Game Homestand On Saturday Versus NYIT
Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team saw its two-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday evening, as the Purple Knights dropped a hard-fought East Coast Conference road game to the host LIU Post Pioneers, 71-66. UB is now 4-17 overall and 2-11 in conference play. LIU Post ups its overall mark to 12-8, and the Pioneers are now 8-4 in the ECC.
LIUP led 30-25 at halftime, and both teams scored 41 points in the second half.
Bridgeport senior Jennifer Kucukkaya (Sodertalje, Sweden) led her team in scoring with 22 points, as she connected on 4-of-6 three-point shots. Kucukkaya was joined in double-digit scoring by freshman Morgen Caution (Baltimore, Md.) with 11 points, and senior Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) with 10 points.
Junior Shannon Holt (Holden, Mass.) led the Purple Knights on the glass with eight rebounds, plus she blocked four shots.
LIU Post's Chelsea Williams led all scorers on the night with 25 points, and teammate Nyasia Davis notched an impressive double-double with 20 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team opens a three-game homestand on Saturday, February 7, when the Purple Knights host NYIT. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
