Rochester, N.Y.-The host Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks proved to be a tough team at home on Friday night in Western New York, as RWC posted a 74-56 East Coast Conference women's basketball victory over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights. UB lead 5-2 just 2:28 into play, but the Redhawks would then never look back as they closed out the first 20 minutes of action on a 36-18 run to grab a 38-23 halftime advantage. Roberts Wesleyan is now 7-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Bridgeport slips to 2-11 overall and is 0-5 in the ECC.
Seniors Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) plus Jennifer Kucukkaya (Sodertalje, Sweden), each with 12 points, and Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) with 11 points led UB in offensive attack.
For the Redhawks, Lucy Covley led the team in scoring with 20 points, and Marissa Sell grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds and finished with a double-double netting 11 points.
The UB women's basketball team is right back in action tomorrow as they travel to Daemen College for an ECC tussle that will begin at 2:00 p.m. in Amherst, N.Y.
