Second Half Unkind As Women's Basketball Falls At Southern New Hampshire, 77-64
Team Returns To ECC Action This Weekend In Western New York
Manchester, N. H.-The host Southern New Hampshire Penmen outscored the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, 44-21, in the second half to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit (43-33) and record a 77-64 non-conference women's basketball win on Monday night. With the win, Southern New Hampshire raises its season record to 8-6, and with the loss, UB slips to 2-10 overall.
Trailing 43-33 at the half, SNHU opened the second half on an 18-2 in the first 6:18 of action run to grab a 51-45 lead. After the Purple Knights battle back to tie things up at 55-55 with 9:56 remaining, the Penmen would close the game out on a 22-9 run to grab the victory.
Bridgeport senior Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) led her team in scoring with 17 points on Monday. Aziz was joined in double figures by classmates Jennifer Kucukkaya (Sodertalje, Sweden)) with 11 points and Casey Bray (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) each had 10 points. Bray finished with a double-double grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.
Vic Wiseman led the victorious Penmen with a game-high 21 points.
Up next for the UB women's basketball team is a trip to Western New York and return to East Coast Conference action, as the Purple Knights face Roberts Wesleyan on Friday night and Daemen on Saturday afternoon.
