Second Half Comeback Falls Short As Women's Hoops Falls At Holy Family, 68-62
UB Will Now Open 2014-15 ECC Play At Home Versus LIU Post On Wednesday
Philadelphia, Pa.-Trailing 35-27 at the half, the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team staged a strong comeback in the second half, but the Purple Knights fell short as they dropped a 68-62 non-conference decision at Holy Family University on Sunday afternoon. UB closed the gap to only four points with just over two minutes to at 60-56, but the host Tigers would hold on for the win. Bridgeport is now 1-3 on the year, and Holy Family evens its overall record at 3-3.
Senior guard Jennifer Kucukkaya (Sodertalje, Sweden) led four UB players in double-digit scoring with 15 points, plus she also grabbed eight rebounds on the day. Classmate Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) had 11 points and added eight boards.
Junior Shannon Holt (Holden, Mass.) and sophomore Louise Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) each had 10 points for the Purple Knights, and Holt finished with a double-double grabbing 10 rebounds.
The UB women's basketball team is back in action at home on Wednesday night when the Purple Knights open East Coast Conference play at 5:00 p.m. hosting LIU Post.
