Trip To Our Nation's Capital Proves To Be Tough One As Women's Basketball Defeated At UDC, 87-59
Tiara Aziz Leads UB In Scoring With 14 Points On Monday Night
Washington, D.C.-A trip to our nation's capital proved to be a tough one for the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team, as the Purple Knights fell to the host University of the District of Columbia Firebirds on Monday night, 87-59, in an East Coast Conference contest. UDC opened up a 50-20 halftime lead and coasted to the win in a game in which they never trailed and was only tied once at 2-2. UB is now 6-15 overall and 4-11 in conference action. The Firebirds move their overall record to 16-4, and they are now in a first place tie atop the ECC standings with LIU Post at 12-2.
Junior Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 14, and she was joined in double figures by classmate Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) with 12 points.
Senior Latasia Ward (Bronx, N.Y.) was UB's leading rebounder on the night grabbing 10 boards.
Telisha Turner led four UDC players in double-digit scoring with a game-high 20 points.
The Bridgeport women's basketball team is back in action at home on Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m. when the Purple Knights host conference co-leader LIU Post. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
