UB Women's Basketball Snaps Four-Game Losing Skid WIth 82-66 Home Win Over Mercy
Purple Knights Back In Action On Monday At UDC
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday with a convincing 82-66 home East Coast Conference win over the Mercy College Mavericks. UB trailed only once in the game at 1-0. On the season, the Purple Knights are now 6-14 overall and 4-10 in conference play. Mercy slips to 2-18 overall and 1-4 in the ECC.
Three UB players, senior Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.), plus juniors Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) and Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) tied for the team lead in scoring on the afternoon, as they each tallied 14 points.
The Purple Knights also received solid play from senior Latasia Ward (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior Jennifer Kucukkaya (Sodertalje, Sweden), who each had nine points and nine rebounds. Kucukkaya also chipped in eight assists for the winners to fall just shy of a triple-double.
Maggie Salomone led Mercy with a game-high 23 points, and Tanayzha Augustine had a double-double for the Mavericks with 13 points and 17 rebounds.
The UB women will continue a busy stretch of action Monday, as the team will travel to our Nation's Capital to face the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
