Purple Knights Fall In Low Scoring ECC Women's Hoops Contest At Home Versus Dowling, 50-40
UB Back In Action On Thursday evening At Molloy
Bridgeport, Conn.–The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team saw its two game win streak snapped at the hands of the Dowling College Golden Lions in a low-scoring East Coast Conference affair on Tuesday night, 50-40. The Purple Knights were limited to a shooting percentage of only 25.0 percent from the field on the night making 17 of their 68 attempts, while Dowling shot 30.8 percent hitting16 of their 52 attempts with six of those being from three-point range. UB was outshot from the free throw line as Dowling attempted 16 free throws to UB's five. The loss drops the Purple Knights record to 5-11 overall and 3-7 in the ECC while Dowling improves to 7-9 overall and 6-5 in conference.
The game entered halftime tied at 20-20, as the two sides were evenly matched. UB had their final lead of the game, 26-25, with less than 15 minutes to play in the second half when Dowling went on a 13-3 run over a six minute span that gave them a nine-point lead and control of the game. Bridgeport got as close as five points down but could not muster another comeback.
Senior Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) led the Purple Knights in scoring with 10 points, also recording two assists, and a steal. Tiara Aziz (Jr., Easton, Pa.) was the next highest scorer with eight points while also snatching seven rebounds. Freshman Louise Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) recorded a team-high nine rebounds; while Shannon Holt (So., Holden, Mass.) grabbed eight boards and also had four blocks.
Julia Koppl led the Golden Lions with a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling in 15 rebounds.
The Purple Knights will travel to Molloy College on Thursday, January 30 to face off with the Lions at 5:00 pm. The UB women will then return home to play Queens (N.Y.) on Saturday, February 1 with a tip-off at 1:00 pm.
