UB Women Grab Second Straight Win With 73-59 Home Victory Over Daemen
Jenna Hoffman Leads Purple Knights With 14 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.–The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team won for the second time in as many days with a 73-59 East Coast Conference triumph over the visiting Daemen College Wildcats on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Purple Knights' record to 5-10 overall and 3-6 in the ECC while the Wildcats drop to 4-12 on the season and 1-9 in the ECC.
Both teams traded hoops for most of the first half with the game going into halftime with Bridgeport leading 32-29. For the second straight day a strong second half propelled UB to a win, as they came out of the break on a 14-0 run to jump out to a 17-point lead in just under five minutes of game time in the second stanza. The Purple Knights would lead the rest of the game by double-digits and by as many as 18 late in the half.
UB was led in scoring by junior Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) who had 14 points including three-of-six shooting from long range. She was joined in double figures by classmate Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) with 10 points and sophomore Shannon Holt (Holden, Mass.) who scored 13 points also snatched eight rebounds in the game.
Aziza Patterson (Sr., Teaneck, N.J.) and Evelyn Ovner (Fr., Vallentuna, Sweden) each scored nine points; while Ovner also recorded nine rebounds. Colleen Preusse (Danbury, Conn.) added eight points.
Lindsay Stoddard recorded a double-double, 14 points and 13 rebounds, for Daemen.
Up next, the team will travel to our Nation's Capital to take on the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday January 22. Tip off scheduled for 5:00 pm.
