Women's Hoops Falls At Home To NYIT, 79-60
Purple Knights Continue Homestand On Friday Versus Roberts Wesleyan
Bridgeport, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team played their first home game of the 2014 calendar year dropping a 79-60 decision to the NYIT Bears in East Coast Conference play. The Purple Knights did not lead in the game as they got off to a slow start trailing 14-3 before connecting on their first field goal of the game at the 16:02 mark. With the loss UB drops to 3-10 overall and 1-6 in the ECC, NYIT improves to 7-5, 4-3 ECC.
Senior Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) nearly recorded a double-double with a team high 15 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Shannon Holt (Holden, Mass.) added seven points and four rebounds. The Purple Knights' bench combined for 26 points for the game.
NYIT led by as many as 28 points in the second half and out-rebounded UB 47-37. Rebecca Romeo netted a game-high 16 points for the Bears.
Bridgeport continues their three-game homestand with games on Friday (1/17) evening and Saturday (1/18) afternoon. On Friday Roberts Wesleyan will make their visit to the Hubbell Gymnasium for a 5:00pm tipoff. Saturday brings conference newcomer Daemen College to town for a 2:00 pm start.
