Women's Basketball Snaps Losing Streak With Convincing 91-67 Road Win Over Mercy
Tiara Aziz (33 points and 11 rebounds) And Shannon Holt (18 points and 13 rebounds) Post Double-Doubles For The Winners
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak in convincing fashion on Saturday afternoon, s the Purple Knights pulled away in the second half after leading 46-40 at the half to post a 91-67 East Coast Conference road win over the host Mercy College Mavericks. UB is now 3-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play. Mercy falls to 1-8 overall and is 0-4 in the ECC. Saturday's 91 points are a single game season-high for Bridgeport so far this season.
UB junior guard Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) had her best game so far in her first season in a Purple Knights' uniform scoring 33 points and notching a double-double with 11 rebounds. Tiara connected on 10 of 17 field goals and hot 12 of 15 free throws on the day.
Sophomore Shannon Holt (Holden, Mass.) also recorded a double-double for the winners with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Junior Jenna Hoffman (Manchester, Center, Vt.)rounded out the Bridgeport players in double-digit scoring with a season-best 17 points.
Tanayzha Augustine led three Mercy players in double figures scoring with 15 points.
The UB women's basketball team will now take its Holiday Break, and the Purple Knights will return to the court on Friday, January 3, 2014 when they travel to number one ranked in the nation, Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts. Game time at Bentley is set for 6:00 p.m.
