Cold Second Half Spells Doom For Women's Basketball As Purple Knights Fall To STAC, 51-47
Purple Knights Will Look To Get Back In The Win Column On Saturday At Mercy
Bridgeport, Conn. – For the second straight outing, the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team found tough going in the second half and fell after holding a double-digit lead, as UB dropped an East Coast Conference home game on Wednesday to St. Thomas Aquinas, 51-47. Bridgeport led 43-33 with 13:42 remaining, but STAC went on a 13-0 run to take a 46-43 lead, a lead they would keep the rest of the way. The Purple Knights led at the half, 32-21, as they shot 46.7% (14-of-30) from the field, but only shot 21.4% (6-of-28) in the second half as they lost their seventh straight game. UB is now 2-7 overall, and 0-4 in the East Coast Conference. St. Thomas Aquinas improves to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the ECC.
Shannon Holt (So., Holden, Mass.) led the team in scoring with 10 points for the Purple Knights; she scored eight of those points in the second half. Junior Jennifer Kucukkaya (Sodertalje, Sweden) added nine points all of which came in the first half. Latasia Ward (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) added eight points and five rebounds in the loss.
Freshmen Louise Ovner and Evelyn Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) each grabbed nine rebounds apiece for Bridgeport, who out-rebounded STAC 48-39 on the night.
Sabrina Eggink scored a game-high 17 points for the Lady Spartans in the win.
The Purple Knights will travel to Mercy College on Saturday, December 21 as they will play their final game before the holiday break. Game time is set for 12:30 pm.
