UB Women Fall In Hoops Battle Of Purple Knights At St, Mike's, 64-61
Bridgeport Now 2-1 On The Year
Colchester, Vt.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2013-14 season on Thursday night, as UB dropped a battle of Purple Knights at St. Michael's College, 64-61. Bridgeport is now 2-1 on the young season, and Thursday's action was St. Mike's season opener.
UB trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half and rallied to cut the deficit to five points, 32-27 at the half. St. Michael's open the second half with a 7-0 run to take back an 11-lead, and Bridgeport would battle back to pull within one, 41-40, with just over 13 minutes to play but could never take the lead in the final stanza.
Trailing by three points, 64-61 with seven seconds to play, junior Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) tried to send the game into overtime with a three-point shot, but unfortunately for UB fans, that shot went in and out.
Senior Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) led UB in scoring with 14 points. She was joined in double figures by junior Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) with 12 points, and sophomore Shannon Holt (Holden, Mass.) notched a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The UB women will be back in back on Sunday afternoon at Franklin Pierce University. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
