Bridgeport Women's Hoops Opens 2013-14 Campign With 90-79 Win Over Felician
Senior Aziza Patterson Nets A Career-High 31 Points To Help Give Head Coach Jen Carleton Her First Win On The UB Bench
Bridgeport, Conn. –The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team opened its 2013-14 campaign with a 90-79 victory over the visiting Felician College Golden Falcons on day one of the University of Bridgeport Basketball Classic on Saturday afternoon. UB trailed 44-41 at halftime but bounced back to outscore Felician by 14 points in the second half to take home the win.
The Purple Knights offense was led by senior guard Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) who opened the season on the right foot by scoring a career-high 31 points and dishing out five assists. Aziza went 18-of-22 from the foul line. Patterson was joined in double figures by freshman Evelyn Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) who scored 22 points and added a team-high nine rebounds, and junior Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) who chipped in 11 points.
The win was also Jen Carleton's first win as head coach of the Purple Knights.
The Golden Falcons also had three players score in double figures on the night, led by Trina Plummer and her 19 points.
Both teams will be in action tomorrow, Saturday, November 10, as the University of Bridgeport Women's Basketball Classic will continue. UB will take on Post University and Felician will play Molloy who defeated Post in the first game of the classic, 97-78. Bridgeport will tip-off at 6:00pm. Felician will take on Molloy to open the day at 2:00 p.m.
