Balanced Scoring Leads UB Women's Basketball To 82-65 Home Win Over St. Thomas Aquinas
Five Player Reach Double-Digit Scoring For The Purple Knights
Bridgeport, Conn. - The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team picked up another East Coast Conference victory by defeating St. Thomas Aquinas, 82-65, in front of their home crowd Saturday afternoon. The Purple Knights have won two games in a row and four of their last five. With the victory their record stands at 10-6, and 4-3 in the conference. St. Thomas Aquinas drops to 8-9 on the year, and 4-3 in the ECC. Bridgeport held St. Thomas Aquinas scoreless for the final 5:26 of the first half to open up a 13-point halftime lead, 37-24.
Bridgeport didn't look back in the second half using a balance scoring attack to cruise to victory. Five different players scored in double figures for the Purple Knights. Senior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) led all scorers with a game-high 19 points. Sophomore Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) added 17 points shooting a perfect four-for-four from three-point range; while Aziza Patterson (Jr., Teaneck, N.J.) added 16 points.
UB grad student Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.) scored 15 points pulled in five rebounds and had four steals, while senior Marie Biondi (West Haven, Conn.) scored 10 points off the bench to round out the players in double figures for the winners. Bridgeport scored 33 points off of 27 St. Thomas Aquinas turnovers.
Alyson Brennan scored 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the loss for St. Thomas Aquinas to lead the Lady Spartans.
The UB women's team will look to run its winning streak to three on Wednesday night when they travel to Rochester N.Y. to take the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
