Women's Basketball Tops Queens, 79-69, In Overtime
Purple Knights Trail 61-53 With 9:11 To Play In Regulation And Rally To Post ECC Road Win
Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team outscored the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights, 13-3 in overtime, as the Purple Knights posted a 79-69 East Coast Conference win in New York City on Wednesday night. With the victory, UB is now 9-6 overall and 4-3 in conference action. QC falls to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in the ECC. Wednesday's game was a back-and-forth tilt that featured 12 ties and 13 lead changes.
Bridgeport staged a furious comeback to send the game into the extra period, as the Purple Knights trailed 61-53 with 9:11 to go in regulation. Graduate student Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.), who led Bridgeport with a double-double scoring a game-high 24 points and grabbing a game-best 13 rebounds, tied the game at 66-66 with 2:28 to go in the second half when she nailed a three-point shot.
Dodoo was joined in double figures by junior Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) with 17 points, plus senior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) each contributed 14 points for the winners.
Marie Byrnes came off the Queens' bench to lead the Knights with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
The UB women will look to continue their winning ways this Saturday, January 19 when theyt host the St. Thomas Aquinas College Lady Spartans in an ECC affair. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym.
