Victory Snaps Three-Game Losing Skid For The Purple Knights
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-Junior guard Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) scored a career-high 28 points to help the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team snap a three-game losing streak with an 83-73 East Coast Conference road win over the host Mercy College Mavericks on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Bridgeport, which never trailed in Saturday's contest, is now 7-5 overall and an even 2-2 in ECC play. Mercy remains winless at 0-10 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
Patterson shot the ball extremely for the winners connecting on seven of nine field goals, including going four of five from behind the three-point line, plus Aziza was a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line. Bridgeport held a substantial edge over Mercy at the free throw line, as the Purple Knights went 24 of 27 at the stripe; while Mercy was only 13 of 22 from the line.
Senior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) had a double-double for UB scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Carter also added five assists, five steals and three block shots on the day. Sophomore Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) netted double figures off the Purple Knights' bench scoring 12 points, and classmate Vanessa Schindler (Leimen, Germany) fell just short of a double-double for Bridgeport corralling 10 boards and scoring eight points.
Mercy's Aysha Williams led five Mavericks in double-digit scoring with 18 points.
The UB women are back in action on Wednesday night, January 9 when they travel to Rockville Centre, N.Y. to continue East Coast Conference play at Molloy College. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
