UB Prevails In Overtime In Women's Basketball Battle Of The Purple Knights
Bridgeport Women Open 2012-13 At 2-0 With 73-67 Overtime Victory
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team prevailed in Sunday's battle of the Purple Knights, as UB topped St. Michael's (Vt.) College, 73-67, in overtime. Bridgeport is now 2-0 on the young 2012-13 season, and St. Mike's is an even 1-1 overall.
With score tied 60-60 after regulation, Bridgeport outscored the visitors for Vermont, 13-7, in the extra period. UB hit nine of 10 free throws over the final 1:41 of play to seal the victory.
Senior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn,), who played all but one minute in the game, led four Bridgeport players in double-digit scoring with 21 points. Carter also had eight rebounds (five on the offensive) glass and five steals for the winners.
Tanisha was joined in double figures by graduate student Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.) who netted 18 points and registered her second double-double in as many games this season with a game-high 12 rebounds, junior Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) with 15 points and sophomore Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) with 10 points.
St. Michael's Nicole Adach led all scorers in the game with 20 points.
The UB women's hoops team is back in action on Saturday, November 17 when the Purple Knights host Concordia (N.Y.) College. Game time in Hubbell is set for 1:00 p.m.
