The Purple Knights will have to be beaten twice on Saturday by the winner of the loser’s bracket contest featuring Wilmington and Goldey-Beacom.
NEW CASTLE, Del. – Propelled by two clutch runs in the seventh, the University of Bridgeport's softball team earned a 4-2 win over top-seeded and 17th-ranked Wilmington on Friday. The Purple Knights now advance to Saturday's championship game, having to win just one of two games to win the 2024 CACC title.
It was pitcher Kaite Burawski once again leading the Purple and White to a postseason victory. The left-hander allowed just two runs on four hits in her 22nd complete game of the season.
Burawski continues to lower her ERA as she now stands with a mark of 2.50 in 165 innings pitched. She ranks second in the CACC in strikeouts this season with 210.
In two conference tournament games this weekend, Burawski has allowed just three earned runs in 14 innings.
UB's offense broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh. Angela Oros hammered an RBI single to score Madison D'Amato from second base while an error allowed Meg McFarland to score on the play as well from first.
McFarland also knocked in Bridgeport's second run of the day in the fifth while Alex Hughes registered a pinch-hit RBI single to put UB up 1-0 in the fourth.
D'Amato and Mya Jones each finished the game with a team-high two hits in the game while D'Amato, McFarland, Jones and Hailey Kim all registered runs scored.
