Four from Softball Named to CACC All-Conference Teams
McFarland, Oros, and Burawski were each named to the 1st Team while Jones was tabbed to the All-Conference 2nd Team.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In recognition of superb regular seasons, the University of Bridgeport's softball team put four student-athletes on CACC All-Conference Teams on Monday.
Meg McFarland, Angela Oros, and Kaite Burawski were each named to the CACC's First Team while Mya Jones was tabbed to the All-Conference Second Team.
McFarland has been sensational during her senior season. The Monroe, Conn. native is batting .370 while starting all 45 games in centerfield. McFarland also finished with 33 RBIs and 30 runs scored—each of which ranks second on the team. She has been known for extra-base hits, currently sitting with nine doubles, three triples and three home runs.
McFarland is also currently ranked second on the team with 17 stolen bases. McFarland's top performance of the season came against Dominican when she went 4-for-8 with six RBIs in a doubleheader sweep.
Oros, who started 42 of 45 games, was equally as terrific this spring. The Arizona native currently leads the Purple Knights in batting average (.385), slugging percentage (.608), RBIs (36), hits (50), doubles (12), and home runs (5).
Oros registered at least one hit in 27 games and had 15 contests where she recorded multiple hits. She has saved her best performances for the end of the season as she went 7-for-7 with five RBIs over UB's last two contests. During UB's playoff win over Caldwell, she registered a home run, two doubles and a single.
Burawski continued her spectacular career this spring with yet another strong campaign in the circle. The two-time ECC Pitcher of the Year posted a 2.60 ERA this season across 24 appearances and 151 innings pitched. She finished the year second in the CACC in strikeouts (200).
Burawski has piled up 20 complete games and boasts a 1.24 ERA in the month of April (73.1 IP). She has 10 games this season where she posted double-digit strikeouts, including a season-high 17 versus Polk State. Burawski's remarkable career now features 789 strikeouts in 553.1 innings pitched and an ERA of 1.90.
Jones, the reigning CACC Rookie of the Year, put forth another great season as a sophomore. The Delaware native batted .333 across 31 games played. She finished with 28 RBIs, 17 runs scored and nine walks. Jones tallied four home runs and four doubles to currently sit with a slugging percentage of .511. She managed to have at least one hit in 21 games and is the owner of seven multi-hit contests. Jones' top performance of the year came against Holy Family when she went 6-for-9 with two RBIs and two runs scored in a doubleheader sweep.
Jones has been nothing short of spectacular during her two seasons at UB. She has a career batting average of .400 and has 80 RBIs, 19 doubles and 11 home runs to her name.
The University of Bridgeport's softball team will now play in the CACC Tournament this weekend (May 2-4) at Wilmington.
