BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Looking to continue a four-game conference winning streak, the University of Bridgeport's softball team swept a doubleheader against Caldwell on Wednesday. The two wins put UB at 6-2 in the CACC this season.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 6, Caldwell 1
Kaite Burawski pitched a gem in the opener. The left-hander allowed just one run and tallied 11 strikeouts across seven innings of work.
Burawski has now tossed 10 complete games this season and ranks second in the CACC in strikeouts this season (90).
Offensively, the Purple Knights did a nice job of helping Burawski. Senior outfielder Meg McFarland led the way with a 2-for-3, three-RBI performance. She started the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning.
Junior infielder Madison D'Amato also registered two hits in the game with an RBI.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 8, Caldwell 0 (Five innings)
The Purple Knights erupted for a run-rule victory in the finale. The attack was led by four different run-producers, including a three-run home from Charlee Horton.
Hailey Kim and Angela Oros also knocked in runs in the game—both coming in the first inning. Oros singled in a run and then scored on a Kim double.
On the pitching side of things, Vise Zarate was once again stellar. The sophomore tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits.
Zarate continues to lead UB in ERA this season with a mark of 3.48 across 62.1 innings.
