Purple Knights Plate Four In The Bottom Of The Sixth To Top Felician An Advance In The CACC Championship
UB Wins 5-2 To Open CACC Tournament Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the University of Bridgeport softball team scored four runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-2 lead which turned out to be the final score, as the fourth-seeded Purple Knights advanced to the double elimination portion of the 2023 Central Atlantic Conference Championship Tournament with home win over the fifth-seeded Felician University Golden Falcons. UB is now 29-21 on the year, and Felician falls to 31-19.
Junior Angela Oros Yuma, Ariz.), who had two hits and an RBI in the game, opened the winning rally with a double to center field, and she would then score the tying run after a bunt single by senior Meg McFarland (Monroe, Conn.) and a throwing error by the Golden Falcons.
Sophomore Madison D'Amato (Warwick, R.I.), who had a two-hit day, would then put UB in front to stay with a clutch two-out, two-RBI double, and she would then give her team an insurance run scoring on an RBI-single by the next batter Gabby Simms (Grad., Phoenixville, Pa.).
Freshman Vise Zarate (Cypress, Calif.) earned the win in the circle for the Purple Knights to raise her season record to 19-8, as she fired a five-hitter over seven innings in which she fanned four batters without a walk.
UB will now face top-seeded Wilmington (Del.) University at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J. to open the double elimination portion of the tournament.
