Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Molloy College on Saturday afternoon on Long Island, as UB won a high-scoring opener, 9-6, but fell, 12-2 in five innings, in the nightcap. With the split, the Purple Knights are now 26-13 overall and 14-6 in the ECC. Molloy moves to 20-25 overall, and the Lions are 10-8 in conference action.
In game one, senior Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) had three hits to lead a 15-hit Bridgeport attack, and junior Meg McFarland (Monroe, Conn.) and sophomore Kiana Robinson (Hamden, Conn.), each drove in a pair of runs.
Junior Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.) pitched a complete game to pick up victory number 17 of 2022, as she allowed four earned runs as fanned five batters.
In game two, UB scored two runs in the top of the first on RBI-hits by Taylor Yates (Jr., Elk Grove, Calif.) and Robinson, but Molly scored the next 12 runs of the contest to pick up the split.
Up next, the UB softball team heads up Route 8 to face the Post University Eagles in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
