Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team as the Purple Knights stayed red-hot sweeping a home East Coast Conference doubleheader over the visiting D'Youville College Saints in Seaside Park on Saturday, winning game one, 14-5, in six innings, and taking game two, 4-1. Bridgeport has now won eight games in a row, and the Purple Knights move to 22-11 overall and 10-4 in conference play. The Saints are now 15-9 overall and 4-6 in the ECC.
In game one, the Purple Knights hammered the ball to the tune of 17 hits and 14 runs. Junior Taylor Yates (Elk Grove, Calif.) continued her rampage at the plate in the opener going 4-for-5 with five RBIs, as she smashed two home runs to give her seven dingers on the season.
Senior Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore Hailey Kim (Virginia Beach, Va.), each had a pair of runs batted in for the winners in the 14-5 win.
Junior Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.) raised her season record to 14-5 in the pitching circle so far in 2022 firing her sixteenth complete game of the season with 11 strikeouts to earn the win.
In the nightcap, junior Samantha Schiebe (Monroe, Conn.) was outstanding in the circle firing a six-hitter over seven innings with seven strikeouts and only two walks to even her season mark at 5-5.
Kaira Ramon added two more hits and two runs batted in game two, and freshman Madison D'Amato (Warwick, R.I.), who had four hits on the day, had two hits in the nightcap and one RBI.
Up next, the UB softball team will take a bit of a break, as they are next schedule to be in action at the College of Staten Island on Friday, April 15 for a 2:00 p.m. ECC doubleheader.
