Bridgeport, Conn.-It was another successful afternoon of softball for the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Friday afternoon in Seaside Park, as the Purple Knights won the sixth game in a row and junior Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.) pitched her second consecutive and third no-hitter of 2022 in game one, as UB blanked the visiting College of Staten Island Dolphins, 8-0, in six innings in game one, and completed the sweep with another run-rule victory in game two, as UB defeated CSI, 11-2, in five innings. With the sweep, the Purple Knights mover to 20-11 overall and 8-4 in East Coast Conference play. Staten Island is now 5-15 overall and 1-9 in the ECC.
In game one, Burawski fired her second no-no of the week and third of the season allowing only three Dolphins to reach base in the six inning, one on an error and two other on walks. Kaite fanned 12 batters to raise her season total to an impressive 207 in 118.1 inning pitched so far in 2022. Friday's win raises her season record to 13-5 with seven shutouts and 15 complete games.
On offense in game one, Bridgeport mashed out 14 total hits led by junior Taylor Yates (Elk Grove, Calif.), who went 3-for-4 at the plate, with all three hits being doubles, and she drove in five runs for winners.
In game two, UB had 12 more hits led by sophomore Hailey Kim (Virginia Beach, Va.), who went 3-for-3, to give her a total of five hits in Friday's doubleheader.
Freshman Kalea Faulk (Corning, N.Y.) blasted her fourth home run of the season in the nightcap and drove in three runs.
Yates and senior Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) also had two runs batted in for Bridgeport in the game two victory.
In the pitching circle, freshman Erin Lifrieri (Seymour, Conn.) picked up her third win of the season. Working a complete game in which she allowed eight hits with three strikeouts and only one walk.
Up next, the UB softball team will look to continue its winning ways with a 12 noon home Saturday ECC doubleheader against D'Youville College.
