Game 1
Queens (N.Y.)
Flushing, N.Y.-Junior Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.) fired a no-hitter in game one, her second no-no of 2022, and earned the win in relief in game two, as the University of Bridgeport softball team swept a road East Coast Conference doubleheader at Queens (N.Y.) College on Tuesday afternoon, winning the opener, 5-0, and taking the nightcap, 9-3, in a contest that was halted by darkness after six innings. With the two wins, UB is now 18-11 overall and 6-4 in the ECC. QC is now 1-15 overall and 1-5 in conference action.
In game one, Burawski, who is now 12-5 on the season after picking up both wins on Tuesday, simply dominated the Queens' lineup allowing only two base runners in the game on a hit batter and a base on balls. Kaite fanned 15 batters over the seven innings of her second no-hitter of 2022.
Classmate Taylor Yates (Elk Grove, Calif.) gave Burawski all the offense she would need in the opener when she smashed a two-run homer, her fifth of the season in the first inning.
Freshman Madison D'Amato (Warwick, R.I.) slugged her first collegiate home run in game one, as she had two hits and two runs batted in.
Fellow freshman Kalea Faulk (Corning, N.Y.) also had two hits for UB in game one to help propel the team's 10-hit offensive attack.
In game two, Burawski worked 2.1 innings of relief to pick up win number 12.
Sophomore Kiana Robinson (Hamden, Conn.) had three hits including a home run and drove in three runs in the nightcap.
Junior Samantha Schiebe (Monroe, Conn.) also homer in game two, her fifth big fly of the year, and she drove in two runs, as did Madison D'Amato.
Up next, the UB softball team returns home to face the College of Staten Island in an ECC doubleheader on Friday at 12 noon. The CSI games were originally scheduled to be played on Wednesday, but have been moved to Friday with the forecast of rain tomorrow.
