Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team fell in both ends of an road East Coast Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon, as the host St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans took game one, 5-4, and won game two, 9-3. UB is now 12-9 overall and 1-3 in the ECC. STAC ups its season record to 6-11 overall, and the Spartans are 2-0 in conference play.
In the opener. Bridgeport outhit St. Thomas Aquinas, 11-6, but the Spartans scored all five of their runs on three home runs.
Junior Taylor Yates (Elk Grove, Calif.) had three hits and an RBI for the Purple Knights in game one, and senior Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) had two hits including a two-run homer.
Sophomore Kiana Robinson (Hamden, Conn.) had two hits, and freshman Madison D'Amato (Warwick, R.I.) also drove in a run for UB in game one.
In game two, the Purple Knights got off to a quick start scoring two runs in the top of the first on doubles by Yates and junior Samantha Schiebe (Monroe, Conn.), but the hosts quickly responded with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a lead which they never relinquished.
Kaira Ramon slammed her second home run of the day in game two to give her three on the season.
Madison D'Amato added two hits to her season total in the nightcap.
Up next, the UB softball team will look to get back in the win column at home on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when the Purple Knights host an ECC doubleheader against Molloy College.
