Winter Haven, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team closed out its 2022 Spring Trip to Florida in fine style on Friday afternoon, as the Purple Knights picked up two wins defeating USciences, 5-0, as junior Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.) fired a no-hitter, and coming back to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to top St. Rose, 5-4. UB will head home after their week in the Sunshine State with a 9-4 record.
In Friday's first game, Burawski continued to dominate the opposition from the pitching circle, as she hurled her first collegiate no-hitter against the Devils, striking out 18 batters, including the last 15 of the game. to notch her fifth win of the young season. She also did not issue a base on balls during the game and faced the minimum 21 batters.
At the plate in Friday's opener, freshman Kalea Faulk (Corning, N.Y.) slammed her second home run of the season, and classmate Madison D'Amato (Warwick, R.I.) and sophomore Hailey Kim (Virginia Beach, Va.), each had two hits for the winners.
In Friday's second game versus St. Rose, the Purple Knights trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but UB tied the game with two runs in the sixth and won the game with a tally in the bottom of the seventh driven in by junior Meg McFarland (Monroe, Conn.).
Madison D'Amato had four hits in the second game victory and reached base all five times.
Kaite Burawski earned her second win of the day against St. Rose, as she took over in relief after her opening game no-hitter on Friday.
The UB softball team is next scheduled to be in action at Adelphi University on Wednesday, March 16, when the Purple Knights and Panthers are scheduled to clash in a non-conference doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
