Winter Haven, Fla.-Pitching dominated the day on Monday for the University of Bridgeport softball team in Florida, as the Purple Knights hurled 14 shutout innings in the Sunshine State, as UB moved to 5-2 on the season blanking Holy Family, 6-0, to start the day, and finishing up with a 2-0 whitewash of Wilmington (Del.) University.
In Monday's first game versus Holy Family, freshman Erin Lifrieri (Seymour, Conn.) made quick work of the Tigers, firing a two-hit complete game shutout in which she only issued one walk.
On offense versus Holy Family juniors Meg McFarland (Monroe, Conn.) and Taylor Yates (Elk Grove, Calif.) each had two hits and an RBI, and senior Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.), junior Samantha Schiebe (Monroe, Conn.), freshman Kalea Faulk (Corning, N.Y.) and junior Missy Daigneault (Rensselear, N.Y.) each drove in a run for the winners.
Against, Wilmington (Del.), junior Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.) overpowered her home state team, as she pitched a four-hit, complete game shutout with 15 strikeouts and no walks.
Missy Daigneault and Kaira Ramon had the runs batted in for Bridgeport in Monday's second game, and freshman Madison D'Amato (Warwick, R.I.) went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run.
After taking Tuesday off, the UB softball team will be back in action for the second half of their Spring Break trip to Florida on Wednesday when the Purple Knights face Missouri St. Louis at 10:00 a.m. followed by Ohio's Findlay University.
