Winter Haven, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split two games in the Sunshine State on Saturday falling to nationally-ranked Georgian Court University, 3-0, to open the day, and coming back with an offensive explosion to defeat Tiffin University, 10-5. With the split, the Purple Knights are now 2-1 on the young 2022 campaign.
After being held hitless in the loss to GCU, Bridgeport brought out the big sticks versus Tiffin.
Senior Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) had three hits, including a three-run home run and drove in four runs in the victory over the Dragons.
Junior Meg McFarland (Monroe, Conn.) had two RBI for the winners, and classmate Samantha Schiebe (Monroe, Conn.), who earned the win in the pitching circle, put her team ahead for good in the fifth inning with a solo homer.
Junior Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.), who was the hard-luck loser in Saturday's opener, when she fired a complete game and struck out 15 Georgian Court batters, picked up the save in the victory over Tiffin, working three hitless innings, in which she fanned four more batters
The UB softball team will be right back in action in Florida on Sunday playing a pair of games, facing Davenport to get things started at 10:00 a.m. and then taking on Fairmont State at 12:15 p.m.
