Softball Opens 2022 Season With 4-0 Triumph Over Assumption
Kaite Burawski Fires A One-Hit Shutout With 14 Strikeouts In Friday's Season Opener
Winter Haven, Fla.-The two-time defending East Coast Conference champion University of Bridgeport softball team got its 2022 season off to a fine start on Friday afternoon in Florida, as the Purple Knights blanked the Assumption College Greyhounds, 4-0.
2021 East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year, Kaite Burawski (Jr., Hartley, Del.), picked right up where she left off last season, as she fired a one-hit shutout against the Greyhounds, as she fanned 14 on the day with just two walks.
On offense, UB scored three runs in the first innings and never looked back.
2021 East Coast Conference Player of the Year, Kaira Ramon (Sr., Stamford, Conn.) led the Bridgeport offense with two hits, and junior Samantha Schiebe (Monroe, Conn.) drove in a pair of runs for the winners.
The UB softball team will be right back in action in Florida on Saturday playing a pair of games, facing nationally-ranked Georgian Court to get things started at 10:00 a.m. and then taking on Tiffin University at 12:15 p.m.
