Kaira Ramon And Kaite Burawski Earn Weekly ECC Softball Awards
UB Softball Set To Close Out The 2021 Regular Season At Staten Island Tomorrow Before Beginning Conference Championship Tournament Play On Friday
West Babylon, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport senior Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.) have earned weekly East Coast Conference softball awards this week for their outstanding play in games that took place April 26 through May 2, 2021, as Ramon was selected the ECC Player of the Week and Burawski earned her third selection of the season as ECC Pitcher of the week.
Kaira batted .526 on the week with a .789 slugging percentage and a .550 on base average. She scored seven runs, hit one homer, and knocked in five runs after going 10-for-19 at the plate. She also stole two bases. On the season, Ramon leads the Purple Knights with a .397 batting average and 18 runs batted in.
What a week it was for Kaite, as she went 2-1 with an 0.66 ERA in three scheduled games in the seven day span in which she fired two shutouts with 28 K's and only three walks in 21.1 innings pitched, but she also completed a game on Wednesday versus Mercy that began on April 22 working all 15 innings in which she struck out a single-game school record 23 batters and allowed only an unearned run. Over those 15 innings she allowed only eight hits and walked two.
Up next, the University of Bridgeport softball team is scheduled to close out its 2021 regular season with a doubleheader at the College of Staten Island on Tuesday, May 4 at 6:00 p.m. before beginning play in the ECC Championship Tournament on Friday.
